Hearty Hamburger Stew

Oklahoma has been having crazy weather changes which really isn't new but with all the work going on around the farm I have a crew to feed and they always need something that will fill them up so they can keep working.

Meat is getting so expensive, right now at Wal-Mart a pound of hamburger is $5.98 a pound. That is just crazy. I'm having to get creative with my meals. So I made hamburger stew.

Brown 1 pound of hamburger meat and cut up one medium onion. Season w/ salt, pepper, and garlic.

Now open 1 can of green beans, 1 can of peas, and 1 can of carrots. Drain the veggies but not the tomatoes and dump them all together in your pot.

Next rinse and peel about 4 potatoes and cut them into small sized pieces.

Open 3 cans of diced or stewed tomatoes and dump them in the pot.

Turn your burner on medium and keep stirring until your potatoes are cooked.

While your stew is cooking whip up a batch of cornbread. I used Jiffy this time because I had it on hand and my hubby likes the sweet taste.

Once your potatoes are cooked and the stew is hot add your hamburger meat and mix it around and add more salt, pepper, and garlic.

Serve with your warm batch of cornbread. It's a simple, delicious, colorful, and filling meal that will please.

What are you cooking this week?

Hugs from Oklahoma,

Valerie

  11. YUM - I love stew! Now that it's getting colder here, I'm making it more often (thank you crockpot)! I'd use fresh veggies and maybe a different base, but definitely love the combination of flavors here.

  13. I couldn't agree with you more that groceries are getting a bit on the high end lately. My grocery bill is super high lately, so much that I have had to cut back on chicken. I have been purchasing ground turkey a lot lately. This is a meal that could be stretched into two!

  21. Hubby and I were just talking about dinner ideas. Stew came up, then chili. We are making chili tomorrow simply because I know how to make that. I didn't have a reliable recipe for stew until now. We'll be making that the next night.
