My New Decorating Project

Living Room

I've been recruited by an older couple to turn this... young hunters man pad... into their colorful and comfortable weekend country home.

Bedroom One

Yes, That's right for years I've been decorating houses and I've never told you. Anyone who knows me or who has been friends with me for even a short amount of time has recruited me to decorate their home, office, decorate for and plan a party or all of the above.

Main Bathroom

Guess I should have mentioned it earlier but the truth is by the time I was done with all of their projects I was too tired to take pictures.

Small Dining Area

This place has one common theme.....brown...brown....and more brown. Gag. One can only stare at so much brown and not get depressed.

Master 1/2 Bath

This house was purchased about a month ago and the previous owner redid much of it but never finished it. He didn't spend a lot of time here so he let his cousin and his girlfriend stay here and they kind of took over. I've never seen so many screw holes in my life.

Storage is a definite factor here.

The couple wants a relaxed and comfortable home. They aren't very fancy and are for the most part pretty laid back. This won't be their main residence so they don't need a lot. The couple is in their late 60's and have some health issues so I need to work around those.

3rd Bedroom

This particular room is an extra room. It needs to double as both an office and an exercise room.

The project includes choosing paint colors for the outside, designing a front porch, designing an outdoor fenced area and gardens and decorating the 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath house that includes an open concept living, dining and kitchen area. The hallway also includes a washer dryer area.

They gave me a fairly decent budget but it's still tighter than I would like. With them being on a fixed income for retirement I understand.

They have already picked some furniture so I will work around that.

This project won't be one of those wow...designer projects but I still have to do a nice job and want it to look nice.

The work crews have been found to do some of the projects...we are just finalizing some of the plans. I'm most excited about the porch.

It will take almost 4 months to do the project since we are fighting weather issues and many of the workmen can only work on weekends. That's living in the country folks. Everyone has a day job.

I thought it would be fun to invite you to follow along on this particular project since it's a real life decorating project....not a magazine ready one.

Work at our farm is at a stand still due to weather issues right now...so I am shifting my focus for awhile until the weather improves.

I look forward to you joining me on this journey to help make this a warm country home for an older couple.

Just so you know....the previous owners cousin took the bear skins and antlers with them. Amen. His ex-girlfriend even took the bathroom mirror. Geez Louise.

By the way, I know the pictures aren't great they were taken on my cell phone that was bought at Wal-Mart after an unfortunate accident during the snow storm. The camera on the phone stinks but I'm not replacing it until I have to. I will share the updated pictures as we make progress and use my actual digital camera.

What are you up to this week?

Valerie

  9. My current apartment is LOTS of brown too. Which, I guess is appropriate, because we're out in the countryside. But, we've livened it up with a few pops of color. And a Christmas tree! :)

  12. It will be nice to see what you do. I think smaller budget renovations are so much more realistic and obtainable for people. Goodbye brown.
