Went Thrifting Again, Loved Saving Again

And I mean....loved saving this time.

I haven't replaced but a few throw pillows since our house fire and I was so pleased to see these high- end babies sitting up on the shelf when I got to a new location at one of my favorite thrift shops.

A friend of mine told me to go so I did. I love anything with gingham and can always find a use for it and this yellow and white gingham pillow was a steal at only a few dollars.

The colorful striped pillow only ran $2.99 and it's in great shape.

I also found a plain yellow one at only $1.99 and it looks like it's never been used.

Eyelit lace is my absolute favorite....and I can blame my mom for it. She had my bedroom covered in it when I was a child and my whole life everywhere I've lived I've had to have eyelit lace. I was devasted when I lost my previous collection and oh did my heart sing when I found these three throw pillows for less than $4.00 each without a stain on them.

Have you checked the price of eyelit lace lately? It's ridiculous. The fabric store is even higher than the department stores. You would think they are charging for silk.

See real eyelit lace....it's so pretty.

The last thing that made it into my basket was this patriotic God Bless America throw pillow. It can grace my couch from Memorial Day through Labor Day. For those of you who have been reading my blog for awhile know how much I love anything patriotic.

4th of July is kind of our thing. It was always our favorite family holiday next to Easter and we are carrying on the tradition. Years of decorations were destroyed in the fire and it's taking some time to replenish my supply.  I love the bunting...the colors, the flags, the food, the fireworks, the colors, you name it I love it.

I know what some of you are thinking ...how do you clean them, right?

Dryel is your friend and mine. I've tried the washing machine and mine doesn't have the center piece, but even so it still rips them up.

A Dryel bag in the dryer and voila....clean and smells good.

I keep trying to get my painting done but it's been raining on and off here for 10 days. It's taking forever for the paint to dry.

We still need to set our furniture outside to stain the floors and don't know when that will happen with all the rain.

Someday soon we will have our rooms done.

How about you...any good deals lately?

I'd love to hear.

Hugs from Oklahoma,

Valerie

  1. Thrifting really gets in your blood, doesn't it? It's so fun to go and find bargains. I don't like shopping as a rule, but make an exception for thrifting and yard sales.
    Your pillows are darling! Enjoy!

  9. I haven't been to a thrift store in a long time, but they are so hit or miss where I live. Sometimes they have a TON of stuff while other times there is nothing. Since I live in an area where there are a lot of seasonal residents, sometimes they leave all their junk at the thrift store before going home.

  13. I love that pop of color with the rainbow pillow! My small town has got a ton of thrift shops and flea markets. We explored them when we first moved here, but haven't gone back because, quite frankly, we live in a teeny tiny apartment (temporarily) so there's no space for new things! (Which is probably a good thing to keep my spending in check!)

  15. So sorry that you had a housefire. I am always afraid of that happening in my apartment. We have gas stoves. I love vintage thrift finds and that eyelet lace just takes me back. I had the most beautiful eyelet lace bed set growing up. I wish I still had it!

  16. We have a few stores here and on Tuesday one store gives a 25% discount but they are not as good as other stores. I go once and awhile but not as much as I would like.

    1. You should go at the end of Jan. People will be throwing out their old stuff because they got new and will be cleaning from being stuck indoors.

  21. How do you tell a good thrift store from a bad one? I don't have any issues with giving a home to gently loved goods, but every thrift store I've gone in the stuff looks so bad I can't believe they expect anyone to pay for it.

    1. Roxy if their stuff looks bad leave. There are tons around OKC and the majority are bad. I'm loyal to like 4 of them and have 2 more on rotation. Keep shopping more of them.
