An Afternoon on Ms. Kay's Porch Part 2

I'm back with more of Ms. Kay's colorful porch. Check out her petunias in this little trike.

It's brand new and so stinkin cute. I noticed from the pictures that I have a gift idea for her now and that is something to hang to the left of her door to decorate her porch.

What do you think?

Ms. Kay is arguing with her hubby about adding another piece of lattice. He says, " no" and  she says, "yes," lol. We will see who wins.

They are going to stain the porch soon and Ms. Kay wanted some ideas for fast growing vines....so I told her about the Hyacinth Bean Vine. I need to get mine ordered a.s.a.p. I'm adding it everywhere around here.

This is one of the 3 views while sitting on Ms. Kay's porch...the barn...which houses rabbits and the horse pen where Joe the female horse lives. She is a hoot...always covered in mud and loves to show off.

When God made Spring I know he made geraniums because these are so lovely and in a hanging basket. Be still my heart I love all the colors.

Now I have a little secret...I'm helping Ms. Kay with because you know friends have to help each other out and the secret is that I'm helping Ms. Kay convince her hubby that it's his idea to paint her shutters a teal blue. Yep, Ms.Kay is tired of the green and wants some color and her hubby likes boring beige and green so she's enlisted me to help convince him that a little more color does a house good.

Any ideas how to convince a super sweet but totally stubborn older gentleman that color is a good idea?

We'd love some help.

Have you been chatting with any of your neighbors lately?

I'd love to hear?

Hugs from Oklahoma,

Valerie

  1. How 'bout bribing him with baked goodies like brownies and offering to have a painting party to boot?! I doubt anyone could resist that combination!
So glad you have great neighbors.

  2. I agree - geraniums are definitely a gift from above! Beautiful flowers, and such an awesome view. It's so sweet that you are helping them out... as far as the shutters go, I've found that it is easier to ask my husband for forgiveness, than to convince him to go with color. I think it is the Y chromosome? They tend to be difficult when it comes to change! haha!

Have a great day, and I'm so excited to have found your blog! :) Thanks for the comments on mine....

  4. I grew up in the country with a front porch just right for sittin' - and swinging and listening to rock 'n roll. Ah, you brought back great memories with this little visit to Ms. Kay. Ask her hubby does he want Ms. Kay to be happy? If so, she needs teal shutters to make that happen. (Get her to put on her miserable face while you are doing this.)

  5. I love this fun relationship between you and MS Kay! I think the colored shutters would be a grand idea. You've got to figure out a way for him to think it's his idea. Lol! I love geraniums and bought two hanging baskets of red ones and hung them on the porch today. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,

  6. Yup....bring over a can of paint that "the guy at the store gave me the wrong color and I don't know what to do with it. Could you use it?" lol I like your Ms Kay posts, I can't wait to see the shutters when they're painted!

Thanks for linking up with Green Thumb Thursday! We'd love to have you back again this week!

  14. Colors add so much positive aura in home decor. Maybe you can Photoshop the porch picture and show the old man what would be the final look to convince him!

  15. I adore her porch! It's so cute! Geraniums are one of my favorite families of flowers. I've actually been chatting with a neighbor quite a lot lately. It's crazy that we only just started. She's lived next door for about 5 years.

  16. What gorgeous petunias! I absolutely love all the color coming from all of the flowers - now this is a porch! I wish I had a green thumb... I'm quite terrible at maintaining plants and flowers.

  17. Her porch is absolutely darling! I wish I had a porch to be able to have planters and be able to sit in awe of the flowers. The petunias are beautiful, and Geraniums were my grandmother's favorite flowers, and we still plant them so we can remember her. When I get a house I'll definitely be planting a garden, hopefully everything will live. I have a vegetable green thumb not flowers.

  18. This is adorable! I love that you included your neighbors. People dont realize how awesome their neighbors are because people dont take the time to talk to them. I am happy your close with your neighbors.

  19. I am pretty sure Ms. Kay will win! Haha! I love fun colorful porches like this one. I need to do more decorating outside this year. Last year flew by and before we knew it, it was too late to do anything fun and colorful. Thanks for this inspiration!

  20. We moved onto our street 9 years ago, and since then have had two children (who are now 6 and 4). Up until 2 years ago, it was just us (all our neighbours were older with grown children), until two neighbours moved in, one family with two kids (my kid's age) and the other couple with a daughter the same age as my daughter! Now they all go to school together! How lucky are we?! ;-)

  21. I love the riot of color on her porch! The green doesn't look bad! Although I think a brighter color would be cheerier! Maybe you could tell him it would increase the value of the curb appeal of the house? Money talks sometimes!

  22. Colorful flowers make me happy and calm. I can't wait for spring so I can do gardening again. I love your porch very inviting. My deck is white putting some plants and flowers will surely be more inviting.

  23. Looking at these flowers has me dying for spring and summer! I've never heard of Hyacinth Bean Vine, but now I am intrigued. I have a few places that could really use some vines.

  24. Those are beautiful flowers! I wish I had them here in our place. Well... technically it is not our place. We are just technically living here for the moment so we can't really buy or grow lots of stuff here.

I haven't talked to our neighbors here. I think it should be high time to get out and strike a conversation.
